Down Survey map.
The Down Survey was carried out under the supervision of William Petty between 1654 and 1659, to facilitate the redistribution of land confiscated under the Cromwellian land settlement. Until the advent of the Ordnance Survey in the early 19th century, it remained the only large-scale set of maps of Ireland. This map shows the Barony of Iveragh in Co. Kerry, and contains the "Skellix Rocks" in the top left corner.
