The Irish Grand National was held at Fairyhouse Racecourse on Easter Monday 1916. A Dublin hackney coach driver was at the race meeting. Tommy ‘Banker’ Walsh recalls how news that the General Post Office in Dublin was occupied by the Citizen Army reached the Meath venue. Not believing what he was hearing, Walsh describes a close call on his return to Dublin.
