Portraits 1916 - Min Ryan

Mary Josephine ('Min') Ryan was the sweetheart of Seán MacDiarmada, leader and signatory of the Proclamation. On the eve of his execution Min and her younger sister Phyllis went to see Seán in Kilmainham Gaol. Despite the fact that they would never see each other again, Seán’s mood was upbeat and the three talked about everything other than the fact that he would die in a few hours.
