Office of the Minister for Diaspora Affairs
Minister for Diaspora Affairs
Jimmy Deenihan TD was appointed as Ireland's first ever Minister for Diaspora Affairs at the Departments of the Taoiseach and Foreign Affairs and Trade in July, 2014. The role of the Minister is to drive implementation of Global Irish: Ireland's Diaspora Policy - the first comprehensive statement of Government of Ireland policy on the diaspora. It recognises that Ireland has a unique and important relationship with its diaspora that must be nurtured and developed and recognises the important role that culture plays in building these connections. The Minister supports a range of initiatives designed to develop and deepen diaspora engagement.
